I personally make it a point to spoil my children with gifts on Christmas and their birthdays. I really just buy them toys, because I don't really buy the toys the rest of the year. When having more than one child it is always good to decide on a number of gifts for smaller children. I think with older children it best to have a dollar amount that they can spend rather than a number of gifts. But since my Drama Queen is 6 years older than the twins. She knows she would get fewer gifts, because she is really into more expensive things. I do make sure the twins get the same amount of gifts, however one year I might spend money on one than the other (just depends on what they are into that year).
With bigger families I think gift giving can become a little stressful if everyone buys for everyone. My advice for bigger families that might be a little tight on money is draw names and have them buy just for that one person. This would make it more fun and the gift will be more unique and meaningful. You can also buy 1 big gift for the whole family like a TV (for the family room) or a vacation to Disney.
How do you mange your Christmas gifts with your children?
I would totally love to know you strategy and ideas!

My daughters birthday is a week before Christmas. She gets a TON of presents between both...she is the only grandchild on both sides, so nobody spares any expense. lol. Once the holidays are over, I take some of her gifts and put them in the attic. That way, she doesn't get overloaded with so much new stuff and then burnt out on it all. Also, when she does get bored with her toys, I can bring out 'new' things for her to play with. She's only three now, so I don't know how much longer this will work! lol.
